Die Ärzte - Jazz ist anders

Sorry for skipping another week but now I’m back with something special for you guys:

This week I want to recommend a band called Die Ärzte (The Doctors). They’re one of the best-known German punk rock bands and released 20 albums as a result of being a band for 27years. I picked their latest record called Jazz ist anders (Jazz is different) which was released on November 2nd, 2007.

The trio consists of guitarist Farin Urlaub, drummer Bela B. and bass player Rodrigo González. All three are singing and writing. Their brand of music is straight German punk rock with the funniest lyrics I have ever heard and that makes their music so genius. They’re just a bunch of funny dudes who don’t take themselves too serious.

Die Ärzte produced this record on their own. The album cover is one of my favs ever. The whole packaging looks like a pizza box, the CD itself has the picture of a pizza on it. It’s just a reference to the most consumed food during their studio sessions - pizza. lol

I grew up with their music. I remember being a little annoying punk rock kid being in love with their music and with those funny lyrics. I still caught myself going crazy when I hear a song of them in a club and end up singing out loud while jumping to their beats. They always got me and still do. This record just reminds me how much I love them.

My fav songs are Junge, Lasse redn, Himmelblau and Nur ein Kuss, they’re just too funny and so catchy. I can highly recommend to read their lyrics if you don’t understand German. I’m glad we have such a pretty damn good German band and it shows that German music don’t have to sound as creepy as Tokio Hotel. ;)

Powerspace - The Kicks of Passion

First of all I’m pretty sorry for the lack of recommendations the past two weeks. I was just too busy to take the time of writing one. But now here you go…

This week I want to recommend a band called Powerspace. It’s a power pop band from Chicago, Illinois. They released their debut album The Kicks of Passion on July 31, 2007.

I would describe their music as a combination of some punk pop vibes with a sweet dance-rock sound. Alec Cyganowski’s high and soft voice fits perfectly to their powerful and electric music. Their songs are catchy and always bring me in a good mood. I remember listen to their album non-stop on a really shitty and long train ride but their album cheered me up a lot. I always enjoy when music can give you those good vibes. It’s one of those albums you can listen to on really bad days but also if you want to party with all your shitty friends the whole damn night.

I love the video of Right On, Right Now it shows that they’re not only great musician but also really funny dudes. I also really like Prologue: Adam Beckett it’s just so catchy and infectious. Be Aggressive and Dancing in the Future both stand a bit out and those songs have this sweet electro touch, which I pretty much enjoy.

They’re now working on a new record which will be called American Machine coming out mid 2009. So there is something to look forward to.

Carolina Liar - Coming to Terms

This week I present you an American band called Carolina Liar. Coming to Terms is their first studio album and was released on May 20, 2008.

They’re one of those bands who really surprised me and learned me once again you should never judge a band by their appearance. When I saw them for the first time I thought they’re one of these hippie bands, I don’t know but anyway I gave their music a listen and I’m glad I did so. I was totally overwhelmed when I was listening to their music for the first time, I was just like wow that’s genius. Chad Wolf songwriting skills together with his soulful voice are so intense. Their music has this infectious pop sound mixed with a deeper, darker rock touch, you just fall in love with.

The Audition - Champion

Today I want to recommend a band, who was formed in 2003 in Chicago, Illinois, called The Audition. Champion is their second full-length album and was released on January 22, 2008.

They’re one of those bands I always knew but never really listened to. What a shame cause they’re truly amazing. Their brand of music would be easiest classified as pop-punk. The combination of Danny Stevens soft but powerful voice together with those strong and smashing guitar riffs, give them this infective sound. Great sing-alongs makes you what to party to their songs.

My fav songs are “Edinboro” and “What Gets You Through The Night” those songs are just so infective. I'm so in love with the whole record.

The band is currently working on their third album. It’ll be release in April 28th, 2009 and will be called "Self-Titled Album". So there is something to look forward to! ;)

This Providence - Who Are You Now?

It’s Sunday and that means a new recommendation! Today it’s Who Are You Now? the new album by This Providence, which will be release this Tuesday March 17, 2009. They’re an indie rock band from Seattle, Washington and signed to Fueled by Ramen since 2006.

Their music is really different from other young bands nowadays. They have this passionate, emotional and individual sound which makes them so magnificent. The quartet songs are so honest and dreamy that you have no chance and just fall in love which each and every song. Dan Young has such a soft and soulful voice which you can’t escape. While listening to the album I feel like dreaming away and it’s like a beautiful summer day just started. At the same time they have this energy and dynamic which give their songs just a stronger expression. It’s really an album which is so worth a listen and it’s bound to occur to fall in love with it.

My fav song so far is maybe That Girl’s A Trick, it gets me since the first listen, I was just like WOW! I think it’s amazing that they put a renovated version of My Beautiful Rescue on this album, it’s one of their best songs, if you asked me. The video they made for this song so reflects their music to me, watch it right here. Letdown is a strong song too and it’s great live, convince yourself and watch this. Sand In Your Shoes is one of these songs I want to dream away with and shows me how great musicians they already are.

Scouting for Girls - Scouting for Girls

Today I want to recommend a British indie-pop band formed in 2005 called Scouting for Girls. Their eponymous record was released on 17th September, 2007 and is there only record so far.

I totally fall in love with these three guys who made such incredible music. Their songs are about love and girls but they give their love songs this unique touch, which make them gorgeous on the one hand and cheeky on the other hand. Their music always brings me in a good mood and put a big smile on my face, which is always good. Their sound is really poppy and British what fits perfectly. Their songs are easy to sing a long and catchy but you don’t get bored of them. There is always something new to love about each and every song.

“Heartbeat” is definitely their most famous song, I think, and it’s my fav. But I love all their songs, “She's So Lovely” is such a sweet song which always gets me, same with “The Airplane Song”. They made a lot of great videos for the record, they funny, cute and just awesome so make sure to watch them.

Give them a listen, it’s worth it.

Cash Cash - Take It To The Floor

This week I want to recommend a pretty young band from Roseland, New Jersey called Cash Cash. They just released their first record Take It To The Floor, on January 20th, 2009.

They’re known for their crossover of 70s pumped-up funk and the infectious 80s-styled pop. This gives them this sweet powerpop sound with a lot of electronic elements and reminds you of bands like Metro Station and Cobra Starship. It’s one of those records you just want to party to with songs that are easy to sing along.

The band sound is refreshing, electric, infectious and totally worth a listen.

My fav songs are “Sugar Rush”, “Party In Your Bedroom” and “Electric Hearts”. I just like the sound and they’re such catchy songs. I could listen to them the whole day and won’t get bored.

Automatic Loveletter - Recover EP

This week I want to recommend a band called Automatic Loveletter. They’re a pretty young band and were formed in Tampa in 2003. I pick their first EP called Recover. It’s a 5-song EP released on December 4th, 2007.

As the band’s name already reveals their songs sound like love letters and hit you right in the heart. Juliet Simms has one of the most unique voices I’ve ever heard. Her husky voice is full of emotions and at the same time it has this vulnerability. Her emotional lyrics are based on heartbreak, depression and obsession, they’re just genius. You have to be in the right mood when you listen to those songs. You should lie in bed and put your headphones on. I’m sure you’ll be under a charm.

I love the entire EP, but the song which touched me most is “Make-Up Smeared Eyes”, such a heartbreaking song. That it’s an acoustic song gives you a even more intimated version of Juliet Simms amazing voice. “The Answer” and “Hush” gave me the creeps too. Watch the video for “Hush” right here. Isn’t Juliet beautiful?!

Their first album is anticipated in 2009. So keep an eye open. I will.

Alkaline Trio - Maybe I'll Catch Fire

Today I want to recommend a punk rock band from Chicago which exist for 13 years now, an oldie but goodie. I’m talking about no other band than Alkaline Trio. I pick their second studio album called Maybe I'll Catch Fire. It’s a ten-song album released on March 14th, 2000.

I really like Matt Skiba husky voice and in combination with those heavy guitars and drums it gives them this sweet rock sound. It’s one of those albums that's not easy to forget, it’s brutal honest and don’t even try to mince matters.

Franz Ferdinand - Tonight: Franz Ferdinand

My first recommendation is the latest album from the awesome Scottish band Franz Ferdinand called Tonight: Franz Ferdinand. It’s their third album and was just released on January 26, 2009.

I really like all the stuff the band made in the last years, songs like “Michael” from the album Franz Ferdinand or “Do You Want To” and “Walk Away” from the album You Could Have It So Much Better, are such catchy songs you just want to dance to. I really like their britpop sound.

The new record has so much more elements in it. They use some electronic elements which I really enjoy. They’re a bunch of crazy dudes what you can see in their funny music videos. It seems like they’re a band that doesn’t take themselves too serious. The band is full of win so I just can recommend everybody to give them a listen! You won’t regret it.
